Funeral services for Leona Ella Sears, 103, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Warner Chapel in Spencer. Rev. Wendy Van Tassell will officiate the service.

Interment will take place at Lone Tree Cemetery in Everly.

Leona passed away June 27, 2008 at Spencer Hospital.

Leona Ella Sears, the daughter of Theodore and Lena (Danker) Lammers, was born May 9, 1905, in Everly. In 1920 Leona moved to Spencer with her family and attended school and graduated from Spencer High School.

On Dec. 18, 1928, Leona was united in marriage to Seril J. Sears in Chicago, Il. Following their marriage they lived in Spencer. The couple owned and operated Nesbitt Bottling.

Leona was a member of the First Congregational Church in Spencer, Degree of Honor Lodge, Legion Auxiliary, Rebekah Lodge, and the Clay County Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother, Harlan Lammers; two sisters: Sylvia Lammers and Wilma Grant; one sister-in-law, Rolene Wilshusen; and niece, Rolene Wilshusen.

Leona is survived by three nephews: John Grant and wife, Nancy of Las Vegas, Nevada, Ron Sears and wife, Sue of Spencer, and Jerry Sears and wife, Sharon of Bailey, Colo; and two nieces: Darlene Hays and Anne Meyers.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
