Fair's grandstand shows make Clay County 'Destination of a Lifetime'

The 2008 Clay County Fair Grandstand line-up is set in place and sure to please fans of all ages. The fair will run Sept. 6-14 and features seven nights of musical performances from stars of all genres, as well as two nights of races. Mail-orders on tickets for the Grandstand and Events Center Grand Ballroom can be sent in immediately.

TRISHA YEARWOOD WITH SPECIAL GUEST ROCKAPELLA

Saturday, Sept. 6, at 7:30 p.m.

All tickets reserved: Grandstand seating $27 and Annex seating $22

Opening night of the 2008 Clay County Fair will bring multi-Grammy winning artist, Trisha Yearwood, back to Spencer. As part of a special night of entertainment, Yearwood will dedicate the new stage that is set to debut for the first time. In 1991, Yearwood's career took off when her first single "She's in Love with the Boy," hit the Billboard "Hot Country Songs" chart at number one. Since then she has racked up three Grammy awards, two Country Music Association awards and two Academy of Country Music Awards.

Vocal group Rockapella, will open up for Yearwood. The internationally known "a cappella" group is popular for their song, "Where in the World is Carmen San Diego?" and appearance on television commercials for Folgers Coffee.

JASON ALDEAN WITH SPECIAL GUEST ERIC CHURCH

Sunday, Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m.

All tickets reserved: Grandstand seating $24 and Annex seating $19

Country's down-home boys, Jason Aldean and Eric Church, will appear at the fair to perform their chart-topping hits. In 2006, Aldean was awarded the Academy of Country Music Awards' Top New Male Vocalist award. Aldean's first self-titled album, Jason Aldean, earned Gold certification in just 12 weeks after its debut release. His second and most recent album, Relentless, was also certified Gold in the fall of 2007.

Nashville newcomer Eric Church, will also be on stag Sunday performing his recent hits "Guys Like Me", "How 'Bout You" and "Two Pink Lines".

TONIC SOL-FA

Monday, Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Free Grandstand shows

Formed over a decade ago, Tonic Sol-fa has created a fresh take on the traditional "barbershop quartet". The group is known for their pop-styled arrangements that are performed with only the collaboration of their voices and a tambourine. The group averages 150 concerts annually, reaching upwards to 250,000 person audiences across 48 states. The dynamic group will perform two free shows on Monday at 2 and 7:30 p.m.

THE DIAMONDS WITH SPECIAL GUEST THE FABULOUS TRAIDMARX

Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

General Admission tickets $15

Talent from yesteryear comes to the fair when The Diamonds perform their hit songs, including the chart-topper, "Little Darlin'". Formed in the mid-50's, the Toronto, Canada natives have often been described as the true sound of doo-wop. In 2004, the group was recognized with an induction into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. They were also inducted into The Doo-Wop Hall of Fame in 2006.

Special guests, The Fabulous Traidmarx, will open for The Diamonds. The local band was formed in 1967 and spent their time performing throughout the region. In 2001 they were inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Music Association's Hall of Fame.

WORLD OF OUTLAWS

Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m.

Reserved Grandstand tickets $35, adults 16 and over and $15, juniors 15 and under.

General Admission Annex tickets $30, adults 16 and over and $15, juniors 15 and under.

The "Greatest Show on Dirt", World of Outlaws, returns to the Clay County Fair. The race consists of 14 winged sprint car drivers from across the country competing. The cars must weigh at least 1,375 pounds with the driver intact. The sprint cars run on a 410-cubic inch engine that is fueled by methanol and produces approximately 850-horsepower.

The rain date for the World of Outlaws race will be Thursday, Sept. 11. If the World of Outlaws race is postponed it will run on Thursday night replacing the Modifieds and Hobby Stock. Both race tickets will be valid for the Thursday night race if Wednesday is rained out.

RACING - MODIFIEDS AND HOBBY STOCKS

Thursday, Sept. 11, at 6 p.m.

General Admission tickets $14

NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace will be joining the modified field to race. Wallace has over 300 starts in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series with three poles, six top-five, and 27 top-10 finishes on his resume. Wallace's most well-known finish came when he pushed Dale Earnhardt to his final Cup victory at Talladega in 2000, in a thrilling last lap shootout.

The support class for the Thursday night, September 11th race will be hobby stocks.

JOSH TURNER WITH SPECIAL GUEST LUKE BRYAN

Friday, Sept.12, at 7:30 p.m.

Multi-platinum recording artist, Josh Turner, is best known for his unique sounding vocals that bring a fresh feel to today's country scene. Country music's first taste of Turner was in 2001 when he debuted at the Grand Ole Opry performing "Long Black Train". The song was such a hit that it became the title track of his first album which achieved double-platinum certification, selling more than one million copies. His second album, "Your Man," was released in 2006 and was one of only four country albums reaching double-platinum certification in that year.

Rising country star, Luke Bryan, is set to open the Friday night Grandstand show. In 2007, Bryan's hit single "All My Friends Say", reached number five on the Billboard "U.S. Hot Country Songs" chart. His second single, "We Rode In Trucks", has recently made it in to the Top 40 charts and is continuing to climb.

CORBIN BLEU AND DREW SEELEY

Saturday, Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m.

"High School Musical" stars, Corbin Bleu and Drew Seely, will bring their act to the Clay County Fair on Saturday night. Bleu stars as Chad Danforth on the highly successful High School Musical series and has toured with High School Musical: The Concert. He began appearing on television commercials at age two and modeled throughout his youth. Since 1996 Bleu has appeared on numerous television shows including ER, Catch that Kid, Hannah Montana and Jump In!

Also appearing at the fair, will be co-star Drew Seeley. Seeley has appeared in the High School Musical series and co-wrote the song, "Getcha Head in the Game", which appeared on the High School Musical soundtrack.

THE BEACH BOYS

Sunday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m.

All tickets reserved: Stage Front standing $30, Grandstand seats $25 and Annex seats $20

Formed in 1961, The Beach Boys have served as one of America's most accomplished groups. Several of the group's iconic hits like "Surfin' USA," "I Get Around" and "Good Vibrations," have helped generate worldwide recognition. Along with a 1988 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Beach Boys have also received numerous Grammy nominations and have been presented the Award of Merit from the American Music Awards. Additionally, Billboard Magazine recognizes The Beach Boys as the number one selling American band for both singles and album sales.

Success brought The Beach Boys four number-one singles and 15 Top Ten hits, earning them high honor in 2001 with the Grammy's Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2003, the group accomplished a three-time platinum certification for their album "Endless Summer", two-time platinum certification for "Made in the U.S.A.", and platinum certification for "Still Crusin'".

All Grandstand shows will close with a fireworks show sponsored by The Farmers Trust and Savings Bank in Spencer.

Only mail ticket orders are accepted at this time. Additionally, over the next two weeks, 400,000 fair souvenir brochures will be inserted in newspapers and distributed throughout the area.
