Northwest Bank announced Monday its sponsorship of the famous Arnold's Park wooden rollercoaster, The Legend. The Legend recently celebrated an eightieth birthday during the summer of 2007 with a summer long extravaganza. Construction of the roller coaster was started in 1927 and when completed featured a half mile of track and was 78 feet high according to archived newspaper reports. The coaster was located at Benit Park, where it is still located today. The coaster was designed by John Miller and is one of the last remaining examples of his work. The coaster was constructed by Harry C. Baker Company and has been in constant operation at the park since its construction with the exception of the 1987 season when the park sat idle. Over 150,000 people enjoy the thrilling ups and the downs of The Legend each season.
