Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Carter, 88, of Ruthven, will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, June 19, 2008, at United Methodist Church of Ruthven. Rev. Jim Gochenouer will officiate the service.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
Interment will take place at North Lawn Memorial Park in Spencer.
Clara passed away Sunday, June 15, 2008, at Ruthven Care Center in Ruthven.
Clara Louise Carter, the daughter of Peter M. and Nellie Holmberg Hansen, was born Nov. 4, 1919, north of Dickens. Her childhood years were spent in rural Dickens, where she received her education, graduating from Lake Center School in 1937.
Clara married Harold August Carter on Jan. 29, 1944, in Spencer. Following their marriage, they farmed the family farm for many years until Harold's sudden death in May of 1973. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Ruthven. In 1975, she moved to Spencer, where she transferred her membership to Grace United Methodist Church in 1983. In 2007, she transferred her membership back to the United Methodist Church in Ruthven.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Louis, Edgar, Henry and Charles (Bob); and one sister, Alma Chase.
Clara is survived by two sons: David Carter of Loveland, Colo., and Thomas Carter and his wife, Sharol of Ruthven; her eight-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Ernest Hansen of rural Dickens; two sisters: Mabel Carter of Loveland, Colo., and Norma Drake and her husband, Bob of Spencer; and two sister-in-law's: Iva Hansen of Ruthven and Wilma Hansen of Sioux Rapids.
Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
