Robert E. York, 61, of Alpha, Minn. passed away at his residence on Tuesday, May 20, 2008. A gathering of family and friends will be on Thursday, June 12, 2008, from 5-7 p.m., at the St. Alphonsus Liquori Chapel (Father Verdick's Chapel) in Alpha.

Robert Eugene York was born on March 12, 1947, in Estherville, Iowa, the son of Donald and Ora (Williams) York. He attended public school in Estherville. He was united in marriage to Linda Nielsen on Feb. 23, 1966, in Springfield, Ill. After marriage, they moved to South Dakota before settling in Alpha, Minnesota in 1974. Robert was a musician playing keyboard for many of the areas bands. He was inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and had also received the Dan Matousek Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, James York in 1974.

Robert is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda York of Alpha, Minn.; three daughters: Tammy York of Alpha, Minn., Tina Grunst of Alpha, Minn., and Angie York of Spencer; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
