Funeral services for Mr. Wilber "Butch" Rabel, 84, of Spencer, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 12, 2008, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. Rev. Brent Lingle and Rev. Harry McAlpine will officiate the service.

Visitation will begin after 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

There will be a Vigil Service at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery of Spencer.

Wilber passed away Monday, June 9, 2008, at Spencer Hospital.

Wilber "Butch" Myren Rabel, the son of George Matthew and Alma (Lehnhoff) Rabel, was born March 10, 1924, in Remsen. His childhood years were spent in Marcus, where he received his education, graduating from Marcus High School in 1941.

Wilber married Geraldine (Gerry) Niichel on Nov. 26, 1945, in Granville. Following their marriage, they farmed for many years near Granville. In 1966, they moved to Spencer, where he owned the Colonial Motel and worked at Herbster Electric, until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer.

He was preceded in death by two granddaughters: Tara and Megan Rabel; a grandson, Jeremy Rabel; and a sister, Marie Metcalf.

Wilber is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gerry of Spencer; eight children and their spouses: Nancy and John Cain of Winfield, Kansas, Mary and Dan Nelsen of Spencer, Tom and Virginia Rabel of Spencer, Terry and Sue Rabel of Spencer, Diane and Bernie Pasco of Loveland, Colo., Chuck and Carol Rabel of Spencer, Paula and Jim Bendlin of Spencer, and Ken and Cindy Rabel of Aurora, CO; 31 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
