Funeral services for Florence A. Osher, 89, of Ruthven, were held Monday, June 9, 2008, at Lost Island Lutheran Church. Rev. Luther Thoresen officiated the service.

Interment took place at Crown Hill Cemetery of Ruthven.

Florence passed away Friday, June 6, 2008, at the Spencer Municipal Hospital.

Florence Alvina Osher, daughter of John O. and Belinda (Christensen) Sandvig, was born March 6, 1919, in Clay County, near Ruthven. She received her education at Lake Center grade school and high school. Following graduation Florence attended Estherville Junior College for one year and then she went to Cedar Falls where she completed her education.

Florence taught country school for five years before marrying Leonard Osher on May 23, 1942, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven. To this union two sons were born.

Florence taught for one more year after her marriage in country schools. She and Leonard farmed north of Ruthven until 1975, when they retired, moving into Ruthven.

They enjoyed wintering in Texas after their retirement. Leonard passed away on June 16, 1997.

Florence was united in marriage to Arlo Duhn at Lost Island Lutheran Church Nov. 21, 1998. She and Arlo continued to live in Ruthven. Florence was an active member of Lost Island Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Leonard; a son, Dale; a brother, Leslie Sandvig; and a sister, Opal Wicks.

Florence is survived by her husband, Arlo of Ruthven; a son, Bruce Osher and his wife, Donna of Spirit Lake; step- children, Orlew Lauger and her husband, Larry of Fort Worth, Texas, Sharon George and her husband, Lee of Minneapolis, Minn., Janet Backland and her husband, Michael of Mankato, Minn., and Susan Mugrdechian of Minnetonka, Minn.; two grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren.
