John L. Roghair

Saturday, June 7, 2008

Funeral services for John L. Roghair, 82, of Hartley and Spirit Lake, were held Monday, June 2, 2008, at First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. Rev. Clint Loveall officiated.

Interment took place at Lakeview Cemetery in Spirit Lake.

John L. Roghair, son of Jake and Mary (Rozeboom) Roghair, was born March 11, 1926, in Maurice. His childhood years were spent near Sanborn, before they moved to Hartley.

John worked very hard helping his dad with farm work. They had row crops, cattle, hogs, cows and chickens. For many years John did custom bailing.

John was united in marriage to Lois Riemersma on Dec. 27, 1950, in Hospers. The couple made their home near Hartley, where they were engaged in farming. Seven years later, they moved near Melvin, Iowa and continued farming until they retired. Lois taught school for 32 years in Hartley, Sanborn and Sheldon. The couple enjoyed their cottage on Big Spirit Lake for 35 years.

John was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. He did a lot of volunteering work while they were building the new church, which he enjoyed very much. He was also active on the church board, and was a greeter and usher for several years.

John passed away at his cottage on May 29, 2008, at eighty-two years of age.

John is survived by his wife, Lois; brothers, Marion and Shirley Roghair of Spencer, Bill and Shirley Roghair of Mountain Lake, Minn., Glen and Janice Roghair of Spencer, and Ronald and Sharon Roghair of Spencer.
