Monday night's Spencer City Council meeting appears to have some pretty light lifting.
When the council convenes at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at Spencer City Hall, Monday, June 2, it will consider a property sale, the establishment of a library reserve fund, and the retention of Kruse, Cate and Nelson as engineer for a local project, along with multiple items on the agenda.
A Committee of the Whole session will take place at 6 p.m., prior to the regularly scheduled council meeting to discuss in detail the 2008 East 11th Street (Hospital area) PCC Paving and Storm Sewer Project.
During the regular council session, the city's governing body will hold a public hearing on the proposed sale of city owned property to Todd Krukow.
Krukow is seeking to purchase an approximate 50' x 168 square foot of Railroad Right-of-Way that abuts his property on East 10th Street.
In addition to the purchase agreement, Krukow has agreed to remove all dead trees, limbs, and trash within one month of taking possession of the land.
The purchase price would be $2,500 and the Progress and Development Committee voted to recommend approval.
The Spencer Library is requesting city authorization to establish a Library Reserve Fund within the City accounting system. The Progress and Development Committee met on this item and are recommending approval.
Councilmen will consider a resolution fixing compensation for City Manager Bob Fagen who recently completed a successful six-month performance evaluation. It is being recommended that the city manager's compensation be set at $97,000, effective the current pay period.
Members of the city staff are recommending authorization to retain Kruse, Cate and Nelson as engineer for the 2008 Grand Avenue Sewer Replacement Project.
The project calls for the replacement of a sanitary sewer between 9th and 10th Street in the median. The estimated cost is $65,000, which will be paid from the Sanitary Sewer Reserve.
Staff members have determined the sewer needed to be replaced when they worked on minor repairs last fall and discovered the condition of the pipe.
A proposed public hearing will be tentatively scheduled at 6:30 p.m. for June 16, 2008 on the Proposed Plans, Specs, Form of Contract and Estimate of Costs. Taking of bids will also be set at that time if approved.
