Leota "Babe" Newgard, 86, of Webb, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008, at Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 31, 2008, at the United Pentecostal Church in Marathon. Rev. Ivor Reuter will officiate the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial will be in Garfield Cemetery near Webb.

Visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. Friday, May 29 at the Smith-Loterbour-Powers Funeral Home in Laurens.

Leota Lillian Delaney, the daughter of John and Anna (Boehm) Delaney, was born March 23, 1922, near Webb. She graduated from Garfield Township High School in 1939. On July 29, 1939, Leota married Donald Newgard in Spencer.

The couple settled on the farm near Webb, where she worked as a homemaker and helped with farm work. Mrs. Newgard was a member of the United Pentecostal Church.

Mrs. Newgard was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; daughter, Anne Newgard; sister, Evelyn "Toots" Wieneke; and half-brother, Elmer Kerns.

Leota is survived by her sons, Ron Newgard and his wife, Allison, of Milford, John Newgard and his wife, Jennifer, of Laurens; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
