Final opportunity to register for fall football

Two final opportunities to register for the MYFL Spencer Youth Football League will take place tonight from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at League Director Randy Cauthron's home, 207 35th Ave. W. These will be the last two opportunities to get equipment sized and register before jerseys are ordered and the league fee increases by $50. To get to the Cauthron home, take West Fourth Street as though heading to Everly. Once past the Eaton intersection, turn at the next left, 35th Ave. W.


On The Record with the supervisor candidates

On The Record, a joint news programming effort between SMU, the Daily Reporter and KICD is returning to the air. Shows will air today at 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. and again Monday at 12 p.m., featuring the six Clay County Supervisor candidates leading up to next Tuesday's primary election. Political Reporter Russ Mitchell and KICD News Director Ryan Long interview the candidates and Clay County Auditor Marge Pitts explains the changes to the election process. The show airs at the previously mentioned time on SMU Channel 3.


Iowa Minutemen to speak in Sioux Rapids

The Iowa Minuteman Civil Defense Corps fields a team to speak at the American Legion/Community Center in Sioux Rapids from 6-8 p.m. on May 31. Speaking will be Minuteman Civil Defense Corps State Director Craig N. Halverson, Deputy Director Ron Duncan, and American Legion Commander from Dickinson County Gary Kastrup. This meeting is open to the public. We encourage all to come and hear the facts on how illegal immigration is impacting each and every one of us.


MS support group

A regional multiple sclerosis (MS) support group will be hosting Dr. Bruce Hughes from the Ruan MS Center in Des Moines. He will present from 9 - 11 a.m. on June 14 at King's Pointe, 1520 E. Lakeshore Dr., Storm Lake.

'Feed the Birds' event at Lost Island

The Lost Island Prairie Wetland Nature Center will hold a "Feed the Birds" program at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 31. All ages are welcome. Participants meet at the nature center to play a bird-feeding game and make a pine cone bird feeder.

EMS, hospital offer free CPR training

Anyone can be a lifesaver when informed and educated in lifesaving skills by a well-prepared instructor. Clay County Emergency Medical Services Association and Spencer Hospital are teaming up to offer four free "Friends and Family CPR" courses on Saturday, May 31 in the Maple and Oak Conference rooms located in the lower level of Spencer Hospital. Classes will be held from 8-10 a.m.; 10:30a.m-12:30 p.m.; 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.; and 4-6 p.m. Although the classes are free, preregistration is required as each class size is limited to 48 students.

Abben survivors celebrate 'Seed of Hope'

On Thursday, June 5, the Abben Cancer Center in Spencer will be hosting its forth annual cancer survivor's day celebration "Seed of Hope". Hundreds of communities worldwide will join at that time to celebrate life as part of the National Cancer Survivor's Day. Join the staff at the Abben Cancer Center at 6:30 p.m. in the Spencer Hospital's Grand Avenue Park. Music will be performed by Laura Carlentini, Ryan Sather and Jack Ryan as you stroll through the gardens. There will be a short program with a dedication of the park benches in the meditation garden to honor all cancer survivors around 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
