2008 Clay County Pork Producers scholarships awarded

The Clay County Pork Producers recently awarded eight high school seniors with scholarships totaling $4,200. These scholarships, which are awarded at the beginning of the second semester of college, were awarded to:

Heather Clark
Heather Clark, the daughter of Steve and Jolene Clark of Hartley. She is a graduate of Clay Central/Everly (CCE) High School and plans to attend the University of Northern Iowa and major in biology.

Edwin Geerdes
Edwin Geerdes, the son of Doug and Kathy Geerdes of Everly. He is a graduate of CCE High School and will attend Iowa Lakes Community College this fall. Engineering is Geerdes' anticipated course of study.

Krista Geerdes
Krista Geerdes, the daughter of John and Karen Geerdes of Everly, is a CCE High School graduate who plans to attend Northwestern College and major in English.

Alecia Kruse
Alecia Kruse, the daughter of Keith and Joyce Kruse of Everly, is a graduate of CCE High School who will attend Iowa State University and pursue a business major.

Krista McCarty
Krista McCarty, the daughter of Gene McCarty and the late Bev McCarty, a 2008 CCE graduate, plans to attend Iowa State University this fall as a food science major.

Morgan McCarty
Morgan McCarty, the son of Allen and Javotte McCarty of Linn Grove, a 2008 CCE graduate, will attend Iowa State University this fall to study engineering.

Caitlin Patten
Caitlin Patten, the daughter of Doug and Carol Patten of Webb, is a Sioux Central graduate enrolled at the University of Northern Iowa planning to study elementary education or special education.

Abby Roghair, the daughter of Randy and Alice Roghair of Royal, will be attending Xenon in Omaha to study cosmetology. Roghair, a 2008 CCE graduate, served as the Clay County Pork Producers' 2008 Youth Ambassador, promoting pork at many county events throughout the year.
