'Livin' Inside Out in an Upside Down World'

Iowa Great Lakes Lutheran School students will present their annual end-of--the-year musical titled "Livin' Inside Out in an Upside Down World," based on Psalm 51:6, at 7 p.m. tonight at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 500 Fourth Ave. S.W., Spencer.


Single Spirits to meet

Single Spirits will hold its next meeting on Thursday, May 29 at the Spirit Lake Public Library. A potluck is set for 6:30 p.m., with a meeting to follow. Activities for the next five weeks will be planned. Single Spirits is an organization open to singles of all ages in the area.

'Feed the Birds' event at Lost Island

The Lost Island Prairie Wetland Nature Center will hold a "Feed the Birds" program at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 31. All ages are welcome. Participants meet at the nature center to play a bird-feeding game and make a pine cone bird feeder.

Blood drive set for Spencer

The Siouxland Community Blood Bank will be holding a blood drive from 2-6 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at the Southpark Mall in Spencer. To be eligible to donate blood, individuals must be at least 16 years of age. Donors under the age of 17 require parental consent. In addition, donors need to weigh at least 110 pounds and have not donated whole blood in the past 56 days. A photo I.D. is required at the time of registration. The Siouxland Community Blood Bank is the sole provider of blood and blood products to 36 Siouxland area hospitals.

AARP meeting scheduled

The local chapter of AARP will meet Monday, June 9 at the Spencer Activity Center. The board will meet at 9 a.m. Social hour begins at 9:30 a.m. with the program at noon. The featured speaker will be state Rep. Mike May, a Spirit Lake Republican. The public is invited to attend.


EMS, hospital offer free CPR training

Anyone can be a lifesaver when informed and educated in lifesaving skills by a well-prepared instructor. Clay County Emergency Medical Services Association and Spencer Hospital are teaming up to offer four free "Friends and Family CPR" courses on Saturday, May 31 in the Maple and Oak Conference rooms located in the lower level of Spencer Hospital. Classes will be held from 8-10 a.m.; 10:30a.m-12:30 p.m.; 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.; and 4-6 p.m. Although the classes are free, preregistration is required as each class size is limited to 48 students.

Abben survivors celebrate 'Seed of Hope'

On Thursday, June 5, the Abben Cancer Center in Spencer will be hosting its forth annual cancer survivor's day celebration "Seed of Hope". Hundreds of communities worldwide will join at that time to celebrate life as part of the National Cancer Survivor's Day. Join the staff at the Abben Cancer Center at 6:30 p.m. in the Spencer Hospital's Grand Avenue Park. Music will be performed by Laura Carlentini, Ryan Sather and Jack Ryan as you stroll through the gardens. There will be a short program with a dedication of the park benches in the meditation garden to honor all cancer survivors around 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Terril citywide garage sales

The city of Terril wishes to announce that its annual citywide garage sale date is Saturday, June 7. All sales will be held rain or shine, beginning at 7 a.m. until whenever. Bargains galore and something for everyone! Come and have fun!


Paws for the Cause

The Clay County Relay for Life "Out of the Blue" team is sponsoring a dog show. "Paws for the Cause" will be held at Oneota Park in Spencer from 2 - 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 8. Activities will include a costume pet parade, an agility competition, and a retrieving and obedience contest. Trophies and prizes will be awarded.

Relay for Life raffle

The "Lucky Pennies" at Farmers Bank are holding a raffle for their Relay for Life team. To be raffled are two hand-blown wine goblets donated by Bogenrief Studios, and a Vera Bradley makeup case donated by the Hen House. You can view the items and purchase tickets at Medlar Studios/Plaster Shop.
