William Carrington, 89, of Peterson, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2008, at Spencer Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at First Congregational Church in Peterson. The Rev. Charles Hall will officiate the 11 a.m. service. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Peterson.
Casket bearers are Ross Thede, Todd Heying, Joe Farley, Nathan Norgaard and Chris Cartwright. Warner Funeral Home of Peterson is in charge of the arrangements.
William "Bill" H. Carrington, the son of Ceryl and Emily (Brighthop) Carrington, was born December 19, 1918, in Washta, where he received his education. He entered the military and served with the U.S. Army from 1939 to 1945 during WW II.
Bill married Helen Schultz on October 26, 1947. Following their marriage, they lived in Kingsley before moving to Peterson in 1950, where they farmed. In 1993, they moved into the town of Peterson where he had resided until the time of his death. He was a member of the First Congregational Church and the American Legion in Peterson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Lynnette; one brother, Dick; and two sisters, Edna and Frances.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Helen of Peterson; son, Bruce of Florida; daughter-in-law, Jane of Ankeny; son, Dean and his wife, Margaret of Storm Lake; daughter, Denise and her husband, Dave Riley of Peterson; son, David of Storm Lake, 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
