David Bailey, 71, of Spencer, formerly of Sioux Rapids, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at Spencer Hospital in Spencer.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. Rev. Chuck Kellogg will officiate the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Spencer, with members of the American Legion Glen Pedersen Post No. 1 providing military services.
Casket bearers will include Troy Simonsen, Ron Sears, Dustin Bailey, Dennis Slaymaker, Derek Bailey and Jason Langan.
Mr. David Carroll Bailey, the son of Edvin and Greta (Nunn) Bailey, was born Nov. 1, 1936, in Peterson. His childhood years were spent in Peterson. He later moved to Missouri, where he graduated from high school in Labelle, Mo. Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Navy from December 1954 until his honorable discharge on Nov. 8, 1958.
David Bailey married Joan Simonsen on July 15, 1956, in Sioux Rapids. Following their marriage, they lived on the West Coast until moving back to Sioux Rapids. He was president and CEO of Simonsen Iron Works, Inc., where he worked for 39 years until his retirement in 2005.
The couple moved to Spencer in 2000. There, he was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Mr. Bailey was also a past member of the city council in Sioux Rapids.
Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Homer Bailey.
David Bailey is survived by his wife, Joan, of Spencer; two sons: Alan Bailey and his wife, Lisa, of Spirit Lake, and Bret Bailey of Chanhassen, Minn.; one brother: Truel Bailey and his wife, Darla, of Sutherland; one sister: Ella Strahman of Grand Junction, Colo.; three grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
