(Photo submitted) The recent planting of the Clay County Growers Field marks the 21st year of research for the corn plot.
One hundred corn hybrids were planted in the Clay County Growers Field earlier this month. This marks the 21st year for the corn plot.

Projects other than the Corn Hybrid evaluation are a Planting Population study and the use of Fungicide on corn.

The corn is on land owned by David and Jan Hopkins and farmed by Al Patten.

The Growers Fields are a project of the Clay Co. Growers Association. Curt Jones is president with Rich Harves as treasurer. The Association hires PRO-CROP Inc to manage the fields each year.

Sioux Central FFA members took part in this year's planting process.

The fertilizer application and spraying was conducted at no charge by First Coop of Marathon.

The soybeans will be planted later on the Paul Kassel farm.

The two fields on Hwy 71 are across from each other, eight miles south of Spencer. The public is welcome to drive through at anytime.

There are white stakes between rows three and four of each corn hybrid. There are six rows each.
