Vehicle damage reports came in between 7:50 a.m. and 9:04 a.m. on Thursday, May 8. Officers think the vandalism took place in the late night and overnight hours leading into that morning.
"There's no rhyme or reason for it," Spencer Police Chief Mark Lawson said. "We can't find a common denominator -- whether it was someone who was upset or irate and taking it out on anything they came across or if it was more than one person together daring someone else to do something -- it's hard to say. You would hope people would respect other people's property. That's not always the case."
Police received the following reports and think the same person or group committed the acts:
* A broken rear window was reported involving a van parked in the 1900 block of North Grand Avenue. Damage is estimated at $600.
* Also in the 1900 block of North Grand Avenue, the driver's side window of a vehicle was broken, resulting in $250 damage.
* The driver's side window and the windshield was damaged to a vehicle parked in the 1100 block of Fourth Avenue West, causing $750 in repairs.
* A vehicle parked in the 900 block of Seventh Avenue West sustained $500 when someone broke out the driver's side window.
Anyone with information can use the Crimestoppers tip line at 262-6655. Spencer Police can be reached at 262-2151. The caller's identity is not needed to collect the reward.
"Even if they hear about it later -- if it's somebody that they know or suspect, we'd appreciate if they give us a call so we can look into it," Lawson said. "Who knows -- they might be $500 in the positive by doing it."
