Services for Merle Osterberg, 71, of Spencer, will be held at 1:30 p.m., today, Saturday, May 10, 2008, at Day Spring Assembly of God Church in Spencer. Rev. Eric Burnette will officiate the service.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service today at the Day spring Assembly of God Church in Spencer.

Merle Edgar Osterberg son of Edgar and Arvilla (Stearns), was born Nov. 6, 1936, in Brookings County, S.D. His early education was in Salem and Miller S.D.

Prior to the marriage of Merle and Rosamae, Merle worked for Gordon and Ernie Kettleson Block Masonry in Sioux Falls, S.D. Merle and Rosamae were united in marriage on June 20, 1970, at the First Baptist Church in Spencer.

Following their marriage Merle was employed at Dean Specialty, Sioux Falls S.D.; Walt Jones Roofing, Westfield; and Hostetler Roofing, Spencer; as well as Osterberg Roofing, Spencer. He drove the school bus for Clay County Head Start and worked at Cleber's. Following his retirement from St. Luke Lutheran Home in February 2002 he enjoyed working part time for Clay County Conservation until the time of his death.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and his two brothers: Marlin and Landis Osterberg.

Merle is survived by his wife, Rosie of 37 years; daughters: Andrea, Cindy, Deanne Hernandez and husband, Miguel -- all of Spencer, and Micale Hillerud and husband, Kyle of Beulah, N.D.; three grandchildren; and sister Gwen Herman and husband, Richard of Sioux Falls, S.D.

The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home of Ruthven is in charge of arrangements.
