ACCIDENTS

* Nanette Sanow, 34, Spencer, was charged with third-offense operating while intoxicated, failure to maintain control, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and operating while intoxicated following a crash at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, along Highway 71 near 300th Street. Sanow and a vehicle driven by Amber Rae Dean, 18, Spirit Lake, were southbound when Sanow's 1997 Ford began merging into Dean's lane. Sanow initially stopped following the crash, then left the scene. Officers stopped her vehicle several miles down away from the site. Sanow's Ford sustained $3,000 damage. Damage to Dean's 1996 Mercury is estimated at $5,800.

* Police were called to an injury-related crash at 5:04 a.m. Thursday, May 1, near Community State Bank and the North Mall. When officers arrived, they saw an ambulance pulled over next to a Dodge Durango. The driver or occupant, Amber Marie Knudson, 27, Spencer, walked away from paramedics as officers arrived. The responding officer then located Knudson and detected a strong smell of alcohol. She claimed two other people were in the vehicle, but would not provide their names. Knudson was taken to Spencer Hospital for treatment and the vehicle was secured.

* Albert Julius Johnson Jr. of Peterson was traveling northwest at 11:30 p.m. Friday, May 2, on 492nd Street, less than a mile northwest of Peterson, when he lost control of the 1978 Jeep. It went into the ditch and struck a farm field drive, left the ground, hit the ground and then rolled onto its side. The driver then left the accident scene. The accident was reported by a passerby the next morning. The driver sustained injuries and said he would seek medical attention on his own. He was cited for failure to maintain control of a vehicle.

* Klint Wiley of Spencer was traveling east on 330th Street a county gravel road near 240th Avenue. Wiley then lost control of his 1995 Chevrolet Blazer on the muddy road. The vehicle entered the south ditch where it rolled onto its top. The mishap occurred at 3:40 p.m. Friday, May 2. Damage is estimated at $2,000.


ARRESTS

* Pennie Handy, 49, Spencer, was charged with driving while barred, driving under suspension and failure to obey traffic control device at 10:35 p.m. Saturday, May 3, in the 400 block of Second Avenue East. She was turned over to the Clay County Jailer.

* Richard Konrady, 48, Spencer, was charged with public intoxication at 7:04 p.m. Saturday, May 3, in the 400 block of East First Street. He was was turned over to the Clay County Jailer.

* Eduardo Artemo Rodriguez, 38, Iowa City, was charged with driving under suspension at 2:12 a.m. Sunday, May 4, in the 1400 block of Grand Avenue. He was turned over to the Clay County Jailer.

* Faustine Lucky Mahaley, 21, Rembrandt, was taken in on two Cherokee County warrants. She was processed and turned over to Clay County Jailer.

* A 14-year-old and 15-year-old male from Spencer were charged with trespassing at 11:52 a.m. Friday, May 2, in the 700 block of East First Street. They were released to parents.
