This year, 1,161 anglers registered for their opportunity at a prize-winning catch on Iowa's Great Lakes during the 26th Annual Iowa Easter Seals Great Walleye Weekend May 3 and 4. No tagged fish were caught in this year's tournament.

The Easter Seals Great Walleye Weekend kicks off the official start of the walleye season and is sponsored by the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, Pure Fishing, Oh Shuck's Bait and Tackle, Kabele's Trading Post, Pioneer Beach Resort, Parks Marina and KUOO FM.

Entrants began fishing at 12:01 AM Saturday, May 3. The 24 tagged fish were worth thousands of dollars in cash and merchandize prizes. The registered angler who catches one of six tagged walleyes during the contest will win the $10,000 grand prize.

The weekend concluded with an awards ceremony and barbecue attended by more than 610 people on Sunday, May 4 at the Dickinson County Expo Building. This year's event raised money to support Easter Seals programs for residents in the Dickinson County area who have a disability. These services include camping opportunities at Easter Seals Camp Sunnyside in Des Moines, respite care, scholarships and loans of durable medical equipment such as wheelchairs and walkers.
