Funeral services for Vera Ebel, 86, of Spencer, will be held at 11 a.m., today, Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Trinity Lutheran Church of Spencer. Rev. C. Peter Maisenbach will officiate the service.

Interment will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Primghar. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Vera passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Mercy Health Center in Fort Scott, Kansas.

Vera May Ebel, the daughter of Chris and Hannah (Swanson) Dormann, was born on Oct. 25, 1921, in Melvin. She was raised in Melvin where she received her early education and graduated from Melvin High School in 1939.

On March 29, 1947, Vera married Howard Christian Ebel in Melvin. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the communities of May City, Paullina and eventually settling in Spencer in 1970. Vera began working at the hospital in housekeeping and retired in 1995. She was a member and enjoyed attending Trinity Lutheran Church and was involved in the Ruth Circle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1981; her daughter, Elaine Hansen; and three sisters: Anna Kearney, Helen Dormann and Ruth Mielke.

Vera is survived by her daughter, Janice Boge and her husband, William of Fort Scott, Kansas; her son, Dennis of Spencer; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Ebel.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
