Funeral services for Darlene F. Nissen, 77, will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, Saturday, May 3, 2008, at United Methodist Church of Ruthven. Rev. Jim Gochenouer will officiate the service.

Interment will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery of Ruthven.

She passed away, after a lengthy battle with cancer, on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at the Spencer Municipal Hospital.

Darlene Frances Nissen, daughter of Glen G. and Violet (Harris) Roland, was born March 21, 1931, near Ruthven. She received her education in Ruthven and played on the girls' basketball team. Darlene graduated from Ruthven High School in 1949.

On Jan.7, 1950, Darlene was united in marriage to Wayne Nissen in Jackson, Minn. To this union five children were born. Darlene was employed at Superior Manufacturing in Spencer and later Berkley's in Emmetsburg and Spirit Lake.

Darlene was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ruthven where she was active in Circle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne on April 14, 2004; a sister, Virginia Roland; and two brothers: Charles and Robert Roland.

Darlene is survived by her children: Diane Lubitz of Seminole, Fla., Terrie Roede and her husband, Randy of Pierre, S.D., Pam Nelson and her husband, Don of Stillwater, Minn., Sandi Ramirez and her husband, Michael of Berthoud, Colo., and Ricky Nissen of Spencer; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two brothers: Donald Roland of Sac City, and Dean Roland of Spencer; and four sisters: Vivian Fread of Ruthven, Betty Cuklanz of Terril, Mary Mingus of Spencer, and Helen Enderson of Spencer.

Arrangements are being handled by Martin-Mattice Funeral Home.
