Funeral services for Carl "Ed" Jensen, 87, of Spencer, will take place at 10:30 a.m. today, Saturday, May 3, 2008, at First Baptist Church of Spencer. Rev. Bart DeBoer will officiate the service.

Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery of Spencer.

Carl passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at St. Luke Lutheran Home of Spencer.

Carl Edward Jensen, the son of Edward and Mary (Leffler) Jensen, was born Sept. 1, 1920, in McCook, Neb. He received his early education and graduated from the Holdridge High School in Holdridge, Neb. Following his schooling, he entered the U.S. Army and served from 1944 to 1946 until his honorable discharge.

He married Phyllis Kabrick on May 19, 1941, in Ponca, Neb. Following their marriage, they lived in Spencer, where he worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Spencer. He was also a member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis, on Jan. 31, 2008; and one sister, Carolyn.

Carl is survived by his three daughters: Gayen Borgen and her husband, Don, of Hackensack, Minn., Cheryl Green of Beaverton, Ore., and Jan Lenhert of Escondido, Calif.; one son, Dr. Perry Jensen and his wife, Lisa, of Temecula, Calif.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, James Jensen and his wife, Judy, of Colorado.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
