Making the transition easier

Volunteer students from the Spencer Middle School RSVP Volunteer Program, who volunteer at non-profit or public agencies during out-of-school time, spent their early out Wednesday packing up various bags and backpacks for "The Foster Care Emergency Bag Project." The emphasis behind the project was to make the Foster Care transition a little bit easier. RSVP partnered with Positively Spencer Youth and CommUNITY Solutions on the Foster Care Drive, and in doing so collected over 46 bags worth of items which were loaded into vehicles (above) and taken to a central distribution point. (below) Briana Westphal and Brianna Miller, Spencer Middle School students, assembled the final two bags. The drive ran from April 7-11 in the middle school, and continued through April citywide. The Foster Care Project is funded, in part, through a City of Spencer Renaissance Grant and an Iowa's Promise Youth Grant from the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service. Additional items were also collected for the Foster Care children.
