First Congregational Church
The 63rd year for First Congregational Church's May Breakfast will be held from 7-11 a.m. Wednesday, April 30 at 1212 First Ave. W. in Spencer. In addition to the over 1,500 May Day baskets, homemade sweet rolls, baked goods, egg coffee, a bake sale table and pecans will be available.
VanHelden open house
An open house will be held in honor of Tony Van Helden from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 30 at the Clay County Administration building in the Board of Supervisors' room. VanHelden is retiring after more than 36 years of providing service to the courts, families and young people.
Blood Bank in Primghar
The Siouxland Blood Bank will be at the Primghar Community Building from 12-6 p.m. Wednesday, April 30.

Spencer Community Schools will have an early dismissal on Wednesday, April 30 at 12:30 p.m. for a teacher inservice.
'Simply Sinatra' dinner ticket deadline
The deadline for purchasing dinner tickets for the May 9 "Simply Sinatra" concert at the Clay County Regional Events Center is Thursday, May 1. Members of the Spencer, Sheldon, Algona and Windom, Minn. concert associations may attend the concert by presenting their season tickets, but will need to purchase tickets if they wish to partake of the pre-performance dinner. Non-members may purchase tickets for the dinner and the concert. Tickets are available at the events center box office during normal business hours and through all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets to the concert will also be available on the evening of the performance.

National Day of Prayer gathering May 1
Come and join us at 6:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 1 for the National Day of Prayer gathering to be held in the Spencer Senior Center, Gateway North Mall. We will begin with a light breakfast for a free-will donation. Featured speaker will be Rev. Russell Muilenburg, Hope Reformed Church, Spencer. Muilenburg's topic is "The Micah Mandate" from Micah 6:8.
This year's theme, "Prayer! America's Strength and Shield" is based on Psalm 28:7. The Spencer Daybreakers Kiwanis Club is sponsoring the National Day of Prayer morning gathering.
Garage, bake sale to benefit Relay team
A garage sale and bake sale, both with many items, will be held Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3 at 806 E. 17 St., Spencer. Proceeds raised during both will benefit Krile's Drivers, a Clay County Relay for Life team.
Glow ball golf tournament
A two-person alternate shot glow ball golf tournament will be held May 2 at the Spencer Municipal Golf Course. Proceeds will be donated to Relay for Life.
