A record number of 1,579 anglers cast their line in last year's Great Walleye Weekend, attempting to land one of six specially tagged walleye. The specially tagged walleye are distributed in West and East Okoboji Lakes and Big Spirit Lake by the Department of Natural Resources. A tagged walleye is worth $10,000 if caught by a registered contestant during the contest hours. If more than one of the tagged walleye is caught, the $10,000 is equally divided. It begins at 12:01 a.m., Saturday, May 3 and concludes with an awards ceremony and barbecue Sunday, May 4 at the Dickinson County Expo Building.
