Funeral services for Verlene Mabel Mori, 94, was held Monday, April 14, 2008, at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. Rev. Jeffrey Filkins officiated the service.

Interment took place at Pleansant View Cemetery of Hartley.

Verlene passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley on April 11, 2008.

Verlene Mabel (Fanning) Mori, the daughter of Grover and Edith (Gathman) Fanning, was born on a farm in Westport Township, Dickinson County, on April 29, 1913. She spent her childhood in the May City and Hartley areas, and graduated from Hartley High School in 1931.

On May 15, 1936, she was united in marriage to Lloyd Mori at Sioux Falls, S.D. They made their home on a farm near Everly, until retiring and moving to Hartley in 1981.

She was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ and the Dorcas Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers: Verlis Fanning and Verle Fanning.

Verlene is survived by her three daughters: Betty Ann Steuben and her husband, Robert of Royal, Shirley Sorenson and her husband, Robert of Urbandale, and Linda Aakhus and her husband, Larry Aakhus of Lawton; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Vernon Fanning and his wife, Helen of Des Moines; and a sister-in-law, Sadie (Mori) Adams of Spirit Lake.
