Animal magnetism: Let's stick them

Monday, April 14, 2008

I've been accused on more than one occasion of being a heartless and generally mean guy.

I can't deny it. I'm really a jerk when it comes to child molesters, violent criminals, drug dealers and basically anybody who can't obey the basic rules of a civilized society.

You know the type I'm talking about, people who prey upon the innocent, who look for opportunities to inflict damage on those around them without any regard for the long term emotional pain and suffering their actions may cause.

It's all about them.

Survival of the fittest.

And my stance in the past has been pretty clear with regards to all of society's animals -- those who behave as though they have no conscience or the capability to determine right for wrong. The same ones who choose to disregard mans laws and do as they would for their own satisfaction, just like an animal that behaves as it does simply due to instinct.

I say stick them all in one room and drop a big bomb on it.

Compared to some of the suffering these animals cause, that punishment seems a bit too quick and painless. Yes, they should all be dead. Not by lethal injection where they go nighty-night forever, but by something that is going to cause a bit of agony before they go so maybe - since they didn't apparently have a conscience to begin with - maybe they'll have an idea on how it felt to be the victim for once.

I've been challenged on more than one occasion for my stance. I've heard all about criminal rights - rights, not just extended and available, but guaranteed to thugs and rapists that unfortunately chose not to offer their victims the same considerations.

I keep hearing about overpopulation in jail. It's crowded. It's inhumane. So we let them out.

They're inhumane. Don't ever forget that.

There's an 80 percent recidivism rate in the system. That means 8 of 10 are going to re-offend, yet we continue to let them out early on an unsuspecting society.

So the death penalty is too savage and we don't have the room to continue housing dangerous criminals - and by dangerous criminals, I do include somebody who manufactures or deals drugs that can wind up in the hands of young people. Dealers, manufactures, child sexual offenders, and violent criminals in general all fall under this category.

So if we can't shoot em' or hang em' - my preference, and we can't put them up and feed them for the rest of their days to keep them away from law abiding citizens, what shall we do?

How about taking a lesson from 'Survivor?'

Instead of spending money on new prisons, lets take those dollars and buy up some of those unpopulated, remote islands in the middle of shark infested waters and just drop them off there. For every 100 of the animals you drop off, provide 30 days worth of food for about 10 of them. Better yet, make them find their own food.

Fight for everything right? Survival of the fittest right? Only the strong survive right?

And we'll just keep dumping them out there until we've gotten rid of all our dangerous criminals.

I'm not asking for it to be televised or anything like that. But it should be well publicized that if you choose to break the laws and harm someone, well you're destined for island living - and not the kind your travel agent was talking about.

This country's got problems, I've got solutions.

It may not be a perfect idea that works for everybody, but it would effectively protect the good, hard working and law abiding citizens of this country just a little bit more. After all, isn't that what our government is charged to do, protect its citizenry?
