Funeral services for Darius L. Malm, 81 will take place at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 4, 2008, at First United Methodist Church of Emmetsburg. Rev. David Morris will officiate the service.
Interment will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Ruthven.
Duke passed away Monday, March 31, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center.
Darius LeRoy Malm, son of Victor and Jennie (Crone) Malm was born Sept. 25, 1926, in Gillett Grove. He attended Wild Rose County School in Clay County and then Gillett Grove High School, graduating in 1944. Following graduation, Duke farmed with his father in Clay County.
On Dec. 15, 1948, Duke was united in marriage to Florence Coleman at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union, five children were born. Duke and Florence lived in Clay County before moving to Palo Alto County in 1951. Duke did both grain and livestock farming and he truly enjoyed working with the livestock. They moved into Emmetsburg in 1994.
Duke was a past member of the United Methodist Chuch of Ruthven. He had also served on the Ruthven Cooperative Elevator Board where he was active in fund raising for its development. Duke was currently a member of the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg and has been active in the United Methodist men's breakfast group.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dennis; a sister, Cleo Hancock; and brothers: Lowell Jr. in infancy;, LaVern Malm and Loren Malm.
Duke is survived by wife, Florence of Emmetsburg; children: Steven Malm and his wife, Ruth of Emmetsburg, Rebecca Johnson and her husband, David of Spencer, Suzanne Faulstick and her husband, Roger of Emmetsburg, and Kent Malm and his wife, Tati of Emmetsburg; 15 gradnchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Darrel Malm and wife, Doris of Spencer; and a sister, Ardyce Gritten and husband, Lorance of Ontario, Calif.
