Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., today, Thursday, April 3, 2008, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Alta. Rev. Craig Cummins will officiate.
Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery of Alta.
James Riherd Davis was born March 18, 1927, in Fort Madison, to Harold James Davis and Thelma (Riherd) Davis. The family later moved to Alta where Jim attended Alta Community Schools.
Jim served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a messenger and was honorably discharged. He married Joyce Zesiger in 1945 and to this union two children were born: Candace and Randall James. He married Carol Boyd Hartmann on July 8, 1960, and to this union one child was born, James Jr.
Jim was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Alta, where he was baptized and confirmed.
Jim started driving truck when he was 16 years old and continued to drive his entire life until his retirement. He worked at Consumer Supply in Storm Lake for 36 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Thelma; his brother, JoDean; and his granddaughter, Amanda Hartmann.
Jim is survived by his wife, Carol of Alta; his children: James Davis Jr. of Alta, Randy Davis of Orrick, Mo., Candy Allen and husband, Charles of Mt. Vernon, Cheryl Hartmann of Storm Lake, Cindy Hartmann of Storm Lake, Craig Hartmann of Alta, Rich Hartmann and wife, Donna of Spencer; seven grandchildren; a brother Dale Davis of Alta; and sisters: Thelma Sherwood of Alta and Alphadeane Schuelke of Newell.
