Basil Lewis Monkelien, 75, passed away Wednesday, March 26 at Mercy Medical Center of Sioux City.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 29 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Spencer.
Visitation with the family present will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 28 at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Interment will take place at Grant Township Cemetery.
Basil was born Oct. 3, 1932, the son of Lewis Theodore and Alma (Johnson) Monkelien in Fonda. He graduated from Pocahontas High School, Luther College in Wahoo, Neb., and the University of Nebraska. He was a US Army veteran having served in Korea.
Basil was united in marriage with Kay Streit on Dec. 5, 1953, at Elgsborg Lutheran Church in Pomeroy.
Basil worked in both sales and purchasing in the meat and food industries. He retired from the Dial Corporation in Ft. Madison in 1998. Since retirement, he and Kay lived in Spencer.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Basil is survived by his wife, Kay of Spencer; children: Sandra Peterson and husband, Dan of Ames, Dr. Sheryl Monkelien of Wellsboro, Pa., Sue Wodka and husband, Jeff of Plano, Texas, and Scott Monkelien and wife, Nanette of Stetsonville, Wis.; six grandchildren; his brothers: Luther Monkelien of Pocahontas, and Anthony Monkelien of Zephyrhills, Fla.; sister, Connie Belles and husband, Fred of Tampa, Fla.; and mother-in-law, Hazel Streit of Ames.
Turner Funeral Home of Milford is in charge of arrangements.
