Funeral services for Mrs. Gladys L. Riedemann, 92, of Spencer, will be held at 1 p.m., today, Friday, March 28, 2008, at Warner Chapel of Spencer. Rev. Deb Mechler will officiate the service.

Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery of Spencer.

Gladys passed away Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Spencer Hospital.

Gladys Luceale Riedemann, the daughter of Robert and Anna (Treanor) Byers was born Sept. 12, 1915, in Harrison Township. Her childhood years were spent in May City, where she attended country schools.

Following school, Gladys remained at home helping her mother raise her siblings. She then went to work for a family with five children in which she made .75 per week.

Gladys was united in marriage to Milford F. Riedemann on Aug. 30, 1934, in Spencer. The couple moved to a farm south of Hartley. They farmed for several years before moving to Hartley where they purchased a Phillips gas station and café. In 1953, they moved to Spirit Lake to continue farming. Gladys went to work for Berkley fishing on May 28, 1954. She was a nylon department supervisor for 24 years until her retirement on February 10, 1978. In 1987, Gladys and Milford moved to Spencer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milford F. Riedemann; her parents; two sisters: Violet Wiedenkamp and Darlene Peterson; and four brothers: Francis, William, Elmer, and Donald Byers.

Gladys is survived by her children: Ron Riedemann and wife, Dixie of Green Bay, Wis., Rod Riedemann and wife, Linda of Yukon, Okla., and Kathleen Vanderzwaag of Woodland, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Mary Sullivan of Spencer, and Lillian Dempsey of Capistrano Beach, Calif.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
