Funeral services for Paul Poynter, 94, of Jackson, Minn., were held Saturday, March 15, 2008, at the Union Stateline Lutheran Church in Petersburg. Rev. Gordon Syverson officiated the service. Burial took place at Union Stateline Cemetery in Dickinson County.

Paul passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus.

Paul Adrian Poynter, 8th child of William Albert and Corda (Nicholson) Lown Poynter, was born near Dieterich, Illinois on Sept. 13, 1915. Paul was five years old when the family moved from a farm near Kansas, Ill., to Superior. He spent his earlier years living in and around the Superior, Spirit Lake and Terril, area where his family farmed and he attended school. In 1934 Paul's family purchased what is still their family farm near Petersburg, Minn. On Sept. 15, 1937, Paul married his wife of 70 years, Lucille Margaret Cushman. Paul and Lucille farmed, had a gravel business and raised five children on the family farm in Petersburg, except for five years, between 1961 and 1966, when they lived in Terril. At the age of 52, Paul attended barber school and owned his own barbershop in Estherville, until he closed the shop at age 85. In 2006 Paul and Lucille moved to Marcus and Paul lived in the Marcus Nursing home, where his daughter was administrator.

Paul was a member of the Union State Line Lutheran Church in Petersburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; five sisters; a son-in law, Robert Barrick; and a grand-daughter, Paula Poynter.

Paul is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lucille Poynter; son, Adrian and his wife, Phyllis of Forest Lake, Minn.; daughter, Sandy Richardson and her husband, Kenny of Dickens; daughter, LuAnn Rogge and her husband, Roger of Marcus; daughter, Katy and her husband, Bob of Whiting; son, Steven and his wife, Deb of Scandia, Minn.;, 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
