The audit report of the Spencer Community School District financial statements as of June 30, 2007, has been released. A copy of the report is available at the district secretary's office for inspection during normal business hours.
Grassley in Spencer
U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley is inviting the public to a town hall meeting in Clay County, from 9:15-10:15 a.m. today in the courthouse boardroom at 300 W. Fourth St. in Spencer.
Early dismissal for Spring Break
Spencer Community Schools announces early dismissal at 2:30 p.m. today. There will be no school between Thursday, March 20 and Tuesday, March 25 for spring break.
Okoboji Christian Women
Okoboji Christian Women, a division of Stonecroft Ministries, will have a luncheon entitled "Reminisce" at the Inn at Okoboji at 12:30 p.m. today. Lou Garner of Sioux Falls, S.D. will be speaking on "Peace in the Midst of Storms." She includes that she is a liver transplant recipient in her talk. Another special feature will be Lynne Dean from Red Door Antiques and Tastefully Simple in Spirit Lake. Music will be provided by Cherilynn Mason and accompanied by Diane Porter, both of Spirit Lake. All reservations are to be honored.

Iraq War candlelight vigil
The Royal Wedding Chapel will host a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. tonight on the fifth anniversary of the Iraq War to support our troops in harm's way, honor the soldiers that have sacrificed their lives, and support all the families that have been affected by this war.
Shaky Tree upcoming events
Come out to Shaky Tree for a rare Wednesday show, at 7:30 p.m., March 26 with Lou Brown. Lou wins the award for "longest distance traveled to play at the Tree"... Lou brings her musical talent all the way from England to perform.
Right after Lou is your chance to take the stage, the Shaky Tree Community Open-Mic will be held beginning at 8 p.m., Friday, March 28. We are cultivating local talent and building community in one jam-packed night. If you are interested in participating... show up by 7:30 p.m. and sign up for a 10 min slot - you may get multiple slots if available, but please keep each slot to ten min, or less. Performers start at 8pm. If you have ever wondered what its like to share your songs, poems, comedy, magic tricks with the world from a stage, then our Community Open-Mic is your chance. Jaycees move egg hunt location
The Spencer Jaycees invite area families to their annual Easter egg hunt at a new location. The egg hunt has traditionally been held at the Clay County Fairgrounds but will be moved due to soggy conditions. The Goal Kick Indoor Soccer Arena, near 10th Avenue East and East 13th Street, will now host the event at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 22. Children ages 10 and under should bring their own baskets or bags. Once inside, children are divided into separate hunting grounds according to their age. There will be several prizes given and goody bags are distributed to all children so nobody goes away empty-handed.
PSY to host Annual Town Hall Meeting
Positively Spencer Youth will host its Third Annual Town Hall meeting (along with 1,338 other communities through-out the country) to discuss the dangers facing our youth. The event will be held from 6:30-8 p.m., Sunday March 30 at Spencer School's Central Office Conference Room B. This event is to be attended by all concerned parents and citizens. Spencer activity tickets as well gift certificates to many area merchants and restaurants will be given as door prizes to several in attendance. Adults only please.
Incoming Kindergarten Parent Meeting
Incoming Kindergarten Parent Meeting will be held from 7-8 p.m., Thursday, April 17 at the Spencer Central Office Building, 23 E. Seventh St., Conference Room B
Registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. Children need not be present for this meeting. Pre-registration forms are available at all elementary buildings and Central Office or you can call Jane at 262-4842 for a form to be sent to you. A "Get to Know Your Child Day" will be held on Tuesday, May 6 at Johnson Elementary School. More information about this day will be explained to you at the meeting. Your child's birth certificate or hospital record must be presented at registration. Kindergarten students must be five (5) years old on or before Sept. 15, 2008, to be eligible.
