Terril Kiwanis fun night

The Terril Kiwanis Club will be hosting a "Fun Night" on Saturday, March 15 to be held at the Terril Legion Hall. The evening will begin with a maid-rite supper from 5-7 p.m. The meal will include baked beans, chips, dessert, and a drink for $5. Immediately following, BINGO will be played for 50 cents per card. All the prizes have been donated by local businesses. There will be a silent auction also. Many of the items are collectibles, with the bid item going to the highest bidder. Kiwanis members are currently selling raffle tickets for the chance to win a gift basket valued at over $100. Chances will be sold the evening of the event also. A bake sale will be taking place throughout the evening. All money raised will benefit local community projects. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will provide financial assistance.

Genealogy Society to meet

The Iowa Lakes Genealogy Society will meet at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 15 at Spencer Public Library. Don Paulsen will have the program and it is "Research Pack." It should be most helpful.

Flagpole omelet and pancake breakfast

VFW Post 3159 and the Amercan Legion will host a Pedersen Park flagpole benefit with an omelet and pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, March 16 at the VFW. Omelets, pancakes, sausage patties, cinnamon rolls, coffee, juice and milk will be served. A free will donation will be accepted.

Palm Sunday ham dinner

A Palm Sunday ham dinner is planned from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, March 16 at First Lutheran Church. A free will donation will be collected to benefit mission work.

DARE pancake breakfast

Clay County DARE will host a pancake breakfast, sponsored by the Royal Firemen, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, March 16 at the Royal Fire Station. A free will offering will be collected. Funding will be used to help provide DARE for elementary and middle school students attenting Clay Central Everly and South Clay schools.

Ward 3 'Sound Off' meeting planned

Ward 3 Spencer City Council member Steve Bomgaars will host a "Sound Off" meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 18 at Fairview School. Refreshments will be provided.

Blood bank in Spencer

Grace United Methodist Church of Spencer will host the Siouxland Blood Bank from 3-6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18.

Clay County 4-H Awards event

The Clay County 4-H awards event will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16 at the 4-H Auditorium on the Clay County Fairgrounds. 4-H Youth Council members will host an ice cream social starting at 1:45 p.m. and will accept a free-will donation. The presentation of awards will follow the ice cream social. 4-Hers who have done outstanding work in their project areas and record keeping will be recognized. In addition, volunteers and special adult award winners will be recognized, and installing new 4-H Youth Council members will be installed. Following the awards program there will be a pie auction to support Citizenship Washington Focus delegates who will be traveling to Washington DC this summer.

NAMI to meet

The monthly meeting of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of northwest Iowa will be at 7 p.m., Monday, March 17, at Season's Center for Community Mental Health, 201 E. 11th St. A short business meeting will be followed by care and share and an update on mental health services and funding shortfalls. NAMI is available for all family members, care providers, and persons with mental illness who can benefit from a supportive network that provides information and education to understand and better cope with mental illness.

Grassley in Spencer

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley is inviting the public to a town hall meeting in Clay County, from 9:15-10:15 a.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2008 in the courthouse boardroom at 300 W. Fourth St. in Spencer.

Okoboji Christian Women

Okoboji Christian Women, a division of Stonecroft Ministries, will have a luncheon entitled "Reminisce" at the Inn at Okoboji at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19. Lou Garner of Sioux Falls, S.D. will be speaking on "Peace in the Midst of Storms." Garner is a liver transplant recipient. A special feature will be Lynne Dean from Red Door Antiques and Tastefully Simple in Spirit Lake. Music will be provided by Cherilynn Mason and accompanied by Diane Porter, both of Spirit Lake. All reservations are to be honored. Cancellations must be in by 2 p.m. March 16.

Iraq War candlelight vigil

The Royal Wedding Chapel will host a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19 on the fifth anniversary of the Iraq War to support our troops in harm's way, honor the soldiers that have sacrificed their lives, and support all the families that have been affected by this war.

Property taxes due March 31

Sande Geidl, Clay County Treasurer, wishes to remind the citizens of Clay County that second half property taxes are due and payable by March 31. You may pay at 300 W. Fourth St., Spencer, between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Also, payments can be made by mail, Internet or in our drop boxes on both the north and south side of the Clay County Administration building.

Memory Loss Support Group

Memory Loss Support Group will meet at 7 p.m. the last Monday of each month at Bethany Lutheran Church, 15 W. 14th St.
