Joseph Francis Schoofs Jr., 55, passed away on March 8, 2008, after a battle with cancer.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 20, 2008, from 3-7 p.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. A memorial service will follow the visitation Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joseph was born Dec. 30, 1952. He was the son of Dr. Joseph and Barbara Schoofs of Pocahontas. Joe attended Pocahontas Catholic grade school and high school where he graduated in 1971. After graduation, he attended the University of Iowa and Mankato State University. In 1978, he was united in marriage to his soul-mate Sherri Beekman. The couple lived in Pocahontas and in 1980 welcomed the birth of their first daughter Nicole Suzanne and in 1982 their second daughter Margeaux Christen. The family moved to Deadwood, S.D. where they happily lived for four years. In 1994, Joe and Sherri purchased Dublin's Fine Food and Spirits in Emmetsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Barbara; his father-in-law, George Beekman; and his nephew, Travis Fischer.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Sherri; daughters: Nicole and Margeaux; brothers and sisters: Chris and Sharon Schoofs of Montreal, Michele and Kerry Kenne of Becinda, Minn., Nicholas Schoofs and Charley of Oceanside, Calif., Lee and Doug Zalatel of North Liberty, Suzanne Schoofs of Des Moines, and Barbara and Dave Barrow of Altoona; mother-in-law, Delores Beekman of Pocahontas; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, DeAnn and John Kultala of Keokuk, Jodi and Curt Rouse of Ankeny.
