Services for Mary Kathleen Geelan, 64, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Ruthven. Rev. Tom Geelan and Rev. Peter Nguyen will officiate the service.

Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery of Ruthven.

Kathy passed away Thursday, March 6, 2008, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Mary Kathleen Geelan, daughter of Cyril and Beatrice (Behan) McGarry, was born Nov. 14, 1943, in Detroit, Mich. Her family moved back to Iowa when Kathy was a young girl. She received her education at St. Joseph High School in DeWitt graduating in 1961. Following graduation Kathy attended Nurses Training at St. Anthony's Hospital in Rock Island, Illinois where she received her R.N. Degree. Kathy furthered her nursing education at the University of Illinois.

Kathy was employed as an R.N. in Milwaukee, Wis. and the University Hospitals in Iowa City.

On Aug. 21, 1971, Kathy was united in marriage to Leo Francis Geelan in DeWitt. To this union three children were born: Leo and Kathy made their home near Ruthven. Kathy went to work at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg and the Emmetsburg Clinic. She was most recently employed at the Family Clinic in Graettinger.

Kathy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she taught C.C.D. for several years and was a member of Ladies Guild.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Leo of Ruthven; her children: Martin "Marty" and his wife, Jessica of Ruthven, Beth Alesch and her husband, Mike of LaCrosse, Wis., and Amy Schaben and her husband, Eric of Omaha, Neb.; six grandchildren; two brothers: Joe McGarry and his wife, Beth of Penrose, Colo., and Dan McGarry and his wife, Sandi of Mankato, Minn.; two sisters: Pat Penny of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Susie Lund and her husband, Dave of Milan, Ill.

Arrangements are being held by Martin-Mattice Funeral Home.
