Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn Freeburg, 85, of Spencer, were held Monday, March 10, 2008, at First English Lutheran Church of Spencer. Rev. Paul Kaldahl officiated the service.

Interment took place at Riverside Cemetery of Spencer.

Evelyn passed away Thursday, March 6, 2008, at St. Luke Lutheran Home of Spencer.

Evelyn Lucille Freeburg, the daughter of Lewis and Amy (Johnson) Capener, was born May 4, 1922, in Palo Alto County. Her childhood years were spent in the rural Ruthven area where she received her education, graduating from Lake Center High School. Later she spent two years studying music at Morningside College in Sioux City.

Evelyn married Dale Pershing Freeburg on March 15, 1942, in Ruthven. Following their marriage, they farmed south of Spencer until retiring in 1980. Evelyn was an active member of First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, where she sang in and directed the choir. She was active in 4-H, serving as the county president.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale; and two brothers: Keith and Wendell Capener.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Sondra Brannon and her husband, Robert of Aurora, Colo.; a son, Marvin and his wife, Laurie of Ames; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Doug Capener and his wife, Pam of Dallas, Texas

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer was in charge of arrangements.
