No services are planned as per the wishes of Byron "Bud" Leigh Hawn, 78, who passed away March 5, 2008, at his caregiver Pamela Dindorf's home.
Byron "Bud" Leigh Hawn, the son of Byron C. and Esther H. (Souers) Hawn, was born Nov. 15, 1929, in Waterloo. He attended Lafayette School in Waterloo and in the ninth grade he transferred to West High School in Waterloo where he graduated.
Bud worked at the Goodwill Industries of northeast Iowa in Waterloo along with managing his farm in Grundy Center. Bud's service to his community, state and country in the late 70's and 80's were as a member of the National Organization of Indoor Sports, National Rehabilitation Association, Farm Bureau of Grundy Center, Waterloo Convention Bureau and Legislative Committee of the Waterloo Chamber of Commerce and served on the Governor's committee for Handicapped and helped pass disabilities laws, the A.D.A., Waterloo Jaycees and traveled alone to Washington D.C. for the signing of the American Disability Act.
Since 1984, Bud has made his home in Spencer.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and a nephew, Cole Ahrens.
Bud is survived by his dear friend and caregiver, Pamela Dindorf and her two children; his sister, Shirley McGreevey and her husband, Larry of Waterloo; and two nephews.
Memorials are to be designated to the Cerebral Palsy Association.
