Funeral services for Jerry D. Matthiesen, 53, of Den-mark, will be held at 5 p.m., today, Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home. Rev. Dino will officiate the service.

Jerry passed away Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at a local hospital, surrounded by his very loving family.

Jerry was born June 2, 1954, in Spencer to Betty (Averill) Matthiesen and the late Jack Matthiesen. Jerry graduated from Spencer High School in 1972. Following high school Jerry was employed in the home construction business in Iowa and Wisconsin. He was also employed locally as a truck driver for various companies. In 1995 he began employment in the power plant at Georgia-Pacific West until his illness. While working at Georgia Pacific he received his Power Engineering License. In 1983 Jerry moved to Denmark and met his best friend, the love of his life, Kristie Skaleski. They were married on July 7, 1990, in Green Bay. Jerry shared his talents as a handyman with family and friends whenever called upon.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Matthiesen; and his mother-in-law, Arlene (Rentmeester) Skaleski.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Kristie; his mother, Betty Matthiesen, Spencer; two brothers: Rod Matthiesen and wife, Cindy of Becker, Mich., and Marty Matthiesen of Rogers, Minn.; one sister, Becky Matthiesen of Charles City; his father-in-law and step-mother-in-law, Anton and Carol Skaleski Jr., Denmark; his in-laws: Richard Skaleski, Laurie Steinhorst and husband, Dan, Ronald Skaleski and wife, Patti -- all of Denmark, Debbie Petrich and husband, Tom of Green Bay; and his extended family: Lori Schneider and husband, Perry, and Julie Whiffen and husband, Scott -- all of Denmark.
