Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 9, 2008, at United Methodist Church in Ruthven. The Rev. Jim Gochenouer will officiate the 2:30 p.m. service. Burial will be at Silver Lake Cemetery in Ayrshire.
Casket bearers are Bill J. Beddow, Karl Discher, Charlie Beddow, Tom Beddow, Ron Mullen, Jim Beddow, Jim Mullen and Jack Beddow.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday, both at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven.
Norma Katharine Beddow, daughter of Claude and Emma (Tice) Mullen, was born March 29, 1920, in Waucoma. She attended school in Ayrshire, graduating in 1937.
On April 2, 1938, Norma was united in marriage to Dale Beddow in Spencer. To this union five children were born. Norma and Dale farmed in the Ayrshire and Ruthven areas for more than 40 years before moving to Ruthven in 1980. Norma was active on the farm driving tractor, picking up rocks or doing any other task that Dale needed assistance with. Normie, as Dale liked to call her, also worked at the Clay County Fair for 26 years at Stub's Ranch Kitchen.
Norma was an active member of the United Methodist Church and church circle in Ruthven. She was also a member of the Ruthven American Legion Auxiliary and Silver Lake Cemetery Society. Norma liked playing cards and was a member of the Bid and Bye Card Club as well as her Bridge Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale on April 11, 2003; two brothers, Leonard and Bill Mullen; and a granddaughter, Abby.
She is survived by her children, R. Dean Beddow and his friend, Leona Chadwick of Canyon, Texas, Billy Beddow and his wife, Marilyn of Lennox, S.D., Donna Thompson of Sioux Falls, S.D., Danny Beddow and his wife, Lisa of Spencer and Sue Roste and her husband, Rich of Harrisburg, S.D.; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; a brother, Bob Mullen and his wife, Ruth of Emmetsburg, as well as many other relatives and friends.
