Jim Guthrie, 84, of Milford, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at the Longhouse Nursing Home in Spencer.
The wishes of Jim were to be cremated and to have no formal services, which the family is going to honor. Memorials may be sent to the Abben Cancer Center in Spencer.
He was born on Aug. 28, 1923, in Milford, to Arthur and Valda Guthrie, the 12th of 14 children. Jim spent his life farming and in the 1960's became self-employed doing mobile home work for many residents of the Lakes Area, until his retirement in 1997. He and his wife Gloria owned Gloria's Café in downtown Milford during the 1970's and 80's. Due to declining health, Jim had been a resident of Longhouse Nursing Home for the last few years. In 2007, he was diagnosed with oral cancer, but had recovered after treatments at the Abben Cancer Center in Spencer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gloria; and several brothers and sisters.
Jim is survived by six children: Stephanie Howell and husband Steve of Commerce City, Colo., Jamie Rees and husband Jack of St. Meyers, Fla., Marcia Poss and Dave of Erie, Colo., Sandi White and husband Larry, of Milford, Curt Guthrie and April of Milford, and Clay Guthrie and wife AnnaMaria of Boston, Mass; seven grandchildren; two brothers; Lincoln and Milton Guthrie, both of Milford; and two sisters: Florence Mize of Camarillo, Calif., and Marcelle Franker of Anthon.
The Schuchert Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
