Memorial services for Oliver Frank Offutt were conducted by Pastor Rev. R. Rynearson at St. Paul Lutheran Church, McAllen, Texas, on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008.

Oliver passed away Dec. 14, 2007, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital.

Kreidler Funeral Home handled the cremation performed by Val Verde Memorial Gardens, Donna, Texas, Dec. 16, 2007, following a human tissue harvest by Legacy of Life.

The son of Walter Floyd Offutt and Ruth (Dansester) Offutt, Oliver was born at Kansas City, Mo., March 27, 1930. In his youth he lived with his parents in various locations in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Colorado, receiving his basic education in Colorado. He graduated from Durango High School, Durango, Colo. He was employed at Gates Rubber Company in Denver previous to serving four years with the US Navy, from which he was honorably discharged, Sonarman, 1st class, May, 1955 at Long Beach, Calif., from aboard the USS Highbee.

On July 3, 1953, he was united in marriage to Violet Marie Heisler, Dickens, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Yuma, Ariz. He was baptized in the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod faith on April 18, 1956, and confirmed on April 22, 1956, at First English Lutheran Church, Spencer.

Following his discharge from the US Navy, he made his home at Spencer, working mainly at the H&N Chevrolet Company and then for 28 years as a postal clerk with the United States Post Office in Spencer from which he retired in May of 1990. He moved to Texas RV Park, Pharr, Texas, in July of 2002, after wintering there for a number of years.

Oliver is survived by his wife, Violet; son, Greg Offutt and wife, Teresa of Durango, Colo.; and one adopted brother, David and wife, Mary Dean Morehart, of Durango, Colo.

Memorials are being given to the Oswald Hoffman School of Evangelism unless otherwise specified.
