Funeral services for Lloyd Strand, 82, of Emmetsburg, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Cylinder. Burial is in North St. John's Cemetery, Cylinder. The family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.

Lloyd Omer Strand was born Dec. 16, 1925, in Cylinder, the son of Art and Irene (Oneson) Strand. He attended country school near Cylinder. Following his education, Lloyd served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was awarded a Purple Heart.

Lloyd was united in marriage to Irene Jacobson on July 6, 1947, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Depew. To this union, five sons and a daughter were born. The couple farmed north of Depew for 17 years before moving to Spirit Lake, where he worked for Berkley's. They spent 20 years there, eight years in Terrill, and the past several years were spent in Emmetsburg.

Lloyd was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, V.F.W. Post No. 2295 and Sons of Norway.

On Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, Lloyd passed away at Spencer Hospital.

Left to cherish his memory are: five sons: Roger and wife, Rita, of Spencer, Dennis and wife, Ruth, of Blanco, NM, Jerry and wife, Kathy, of Cylinder, Steve and wife, Nancy, of Round Lake Beach, Ill., and Ron and wife, Renee, of Spirit Lake; his daughter: Nancy Fear and her husband, Dan, of Milford; a brother, Irvin Strand and his wife, Eleanor, of Mission, Texas; three sisters: Mary Mausehund of Mason City, Bette Legler and her husband, Victor, of Mason City, and Doris Paulsen and her husband, Orville, of Storm Lake; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Irene, and two infant grandsons.
