Funeral services for Mrs. Donna Pierson, 72, of Spencer, will take place at 10:30 a.m., today Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at Grace United Methodist Church of Spencer. Rev. Chuck Kellogg will officiate the service.

Interment will take place at the Riverside Cemetery of Spencer.

Donna passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at Avera Heart Hospital of Sioux Falls, S.D.

Donna Lea Pierson, the daughter of Rexford and Erma (Carpenter) Hansen, was born May 28, 1935, in Spencer. Her childhood years were spent in Ruthven, where she received her education, graduating from Ruthven High School in 1953. Following high school, she attended Iowa State Teacher's College for a short period of time.

Donna married Dick Pierson on April 10, 1955, at the United Methodist Church in Ruthven. Following their marriage, they lived on acreage near Spencer; where she worked at the YMCA and helped her husband raise quarter horses for many years. Donna and Dick also co owned the Party Room and Rental Center for many years, until their retirement. For the past several winters, they had wintered in Arizona. Donna was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan, a 50-plus member of Beta Sigma Phi, loved driving snowmobiles, participating in sports and other outdoor activities. She also worked at the Clay County Fair over 30 years, several in which she was involved in the administration office.

She was preceded in death by her father, Rexford L.; and her mother and father-in-law, Andy and Amanda Pierson.

Donna is survived by her husband, Dick of Spencer; her mother, Erma Hansen of Ruthven; two sons: Mark Pierson of Greenville, and Brad Pierson of Spencer; one granddaughter; a great grandson; and one sister, Karole Graen of Storm Lake.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
