Funeral services for Mr. Ralph Jalas, 89, of Sutherland, will take place at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at United Methodist Church of Sutherland. Rev. Jud Stover will officiate the service.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m., today with the family present from 5-7 p.m. at the Warner Funeral Home in Sutherland.

Interment will take place at Waterman Cemetery of Sutherland.

Ralph passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, at Spencer Hospital.

Ralph Henry Jalas, the son of Rudolph and Margaret (Nissen) Jalas, was born on Dec. 16, 1918, on a farm in O'Brien County. He was raised in the Sutherland area where he attended school. After school Ralph helped his parents on the family farm.

Ralph married Marian Fife on Dec. 19, 1939, in Sioux City. Following their marriage, he farmed his parents farm until 1960. He then went to work for Baumgarten Funeral Home for 19 years, retiring in 1979. In 1946, Ralph joined the Civil Air Patrol until 1956. Ralph was a member of the Abiff Lodge No. 347 in Sutherland.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marian; and his sister, Velma Wohlert.

Ralph is survived by his son, Jerry Jalas and his wife, Caroline of Sarasota, Fla.; his daughter, Linda Rickert and her husband, Mike of Reinbeck; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his longtime friend, Opal Gulliford of Sutherland.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Shriners Hospital or a charity of your choice.

Warner Funeral Home of Sutherland is in charge of arrangements.
