Governor of the Kiwanis District visits the Lakes area

Mark Holmer, Kiwanis Nebraska-Iowa District Governor for 2007-08, held a honorary dinner at the Wild Rose Bed & Breakfast Inn in Okoboji recently.

Kiwanis International is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to helping children of the world, one child and one community at a time. To drive this point home, Governor Holmer announced his theme for his 2007-08 term… "It's About Time" by meeting with each president of the local Kiwanis Clubs to discuss their projects aimed at helping children.

Second year Lt. Governor Ron Feucht began the evening with a brief review of the upcoming year and introduced the new Governor. Nebraska-Iowa District Governor Holmer, currently resides in Algona. He is a retired Lutheran pastor of 39 years. He has been married to Linnea for 41 years, and he is the father of two daughters and has three grandchildren. He has been a Kiwanis member since 1978 and has served a full range of offices and positions in two Kiwanis Clubs.

The Sunrise Kiwanis Club and the Noon Club of Spirit Lake arranged and were the official hosts for the event. All 12 clubs of Division 3 were represented. Division Three covers the following counties: Clay, Dickinson, Emmet and Palo Alto.

Kiwanis International is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana and currently has about 8,000 clubs in 96 countries with more than 260,000 adult members and 320,000 youth members. Their sole mission is to serve the children of the world. Each year, Kiwanis Clubs sponsor nearly 150,000 service projects and raise more than $107,000,000.00.
