Funeral services for Jim Sterling, 61, of Spencer, will be held Monday, Nov. 15, 2007, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. The Rev. Ed Murray will officiate the 1:30 p.m. service.

Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.

Mr. Sterling passed away Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, at Spencer Hospital.

James "Jim" Michael Sterling, the son of Harry and Irene (Crabtree) Sterling, was born September 15, 1946, in Chicago, Ill. He received his early education and graduated from High School in Chicago. Following his schooling, Jim entered the U.S. Military, serving with the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a P.O.W. for 6 months. After his Honorable Discharge, he married Janis Sterling and to this union two children were born.

On March 3, 1989, Jim married Linda Hestbech in Spencer. For the past 20 years, Jim served as manager for Shoppers Supply. Jim was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer where he was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He was also involved in A.A., Boy Scouts and helping with fundraisers in the community.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Berverly Spaur and Roberta Goday; brother-in-law, Ansley Thomas; and father-in-law, Carl Hestbech.

Jim is survived by his wife, Linda Sterling of Spencer; his children: Scott Sterling and his wife, Sonya of Blaine, Minn., Amy Trebino and her husband, John of Clearwater, Fla., and Michael and Matthew Sterling -- both at home; two grandchildren; his sister, Kathy Thomas of Spencer; and his mother-in-law, Anne Hestbech of Sioux City.
