Services for Mr. Madsen were held on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Laurens. Rev. Allan Reicks and Rev. Dale Launderville concelebrated the Mass of Christian Burial.
Interment was at Lone Tree Cemetery at Sioux Rapids, with full military rites presented by the Sioux Rapids American Legion Post 394.
Edwin Patrick Madsen was born on March 10, 1929, in Denison, the son of Edwin Albert and Marie Catherine (Sheridan) Madsen. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed as a youth into the Catholic faith. Ed attended classes at Havelock and Lincoln Lee Township schools before graduating from Rembrandt High School in 1946. He then served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict before he was honorably discharged.
On June 17, 1953, Ed was united in holy matrimony with Bonnie Lenz in Spencer. The couple was blessed with 10 children: Terry, Rich, Ron, Pat, Paul, Mary Jo, Dave, Dan Sherry and Eddie.
Ed spent his life doing what he loved, farming and raising cattle. An active and faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids, Ed believed in living his faith from day to day. He served as a Lee township trustee, and gave of his time as both a member and president of the Rembrandt and later Sioux Rapids/Rembrandt school boards.
Preceding Ed in death were his parents; and one brother, Dale Madsen.
Edwin is survived by his wife of 54 happy years, Bonnie, of Rembrandt; his children: Terry Movall of Storm Lake, Rich Madsen and wife, Linda of Rembrandt, Ron Madsen and wife, Karla of Rembrandt, Pat Madsen and wife, Milly of West Bend, Paul Madsen and wife, Joy of Sioux Rapids, Mary Jo Davis and husband, Jim of Storm Lake, Dave Madsen and wife, Lori of Marathon, Dan Madsen and wife, Michele of Albert City, Sherry Mandernach and husband, Ryan of Newell, and Edwin A. Madsen and wife, Lindsey of Storm Lake; 29 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers: Merle Madsen and wife, Lorraine of Camdenton, Mo., Melvin Madsen and wife, Phyllis of Laurens, Gerald Madsen and wife, Marge of Cherokee, Clarence Madsen and wife, Marie of Okabena, Minn., Duane Madsen and wife, Joan of Heron Lake, Minn., and Robert Madsen and wife, Sandy of Heron Lake, Minn.; sisters: Maxine Launderville and husband, Lee of Lakeside, and Jean Madsen of Lakefield, Minn.; and two sisters-in-law: Arleen Ivers of Schaller, and Eunice Shepard of Spirit Lake.
