Funeral services for Dean Reese, 82, of Peterson, will be held Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007 at United Methodist Church in Peterson. Rev. Roger Maize will officiate the 10:30 a.m. service. Military services will be conducted by Dean-Underwood Post No. 10 of Peterson following the graveside services. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Peterson.

Mr. Reese passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2007 at New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 - 8 p.m. at Warner Funeral Home in Peterson.

Dean Richard Reese, the son of John E. and Mabel (Hansen) Reese, was born Oct. 16, 1925, in Plankinton, S.D. His childhood years were spent in Alta where he received his early education. In 1938, his family moved to a farm outside of Peterson. Dean graduated from Peterson High School in 1943.

On Feb. 8, 1944, Dean was united in marriage to Ester Fear in Jackson, Minn. Following their marriage, Dean entered the Army on June 6, 1944. He served in Belgium and Germany during WWII and was involved in the Battle of The Bulge. Following his honorable discharge from the Army on Feb. 17, 1946, Dean moved back to Peterson to farm with his brother Wayne.

Dean was a member of the United Methodist Church in Peterson, IA, a 50-year member of the American Legion Dean Underwood Post No. 10, and a charter member of the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one infant brother, Ward Reese.

Dean is survived by his wife, Ester Reese of Peterson; his four children: Glenda Smith and husband, Ernest of McKinney, Texas, Sheryl Hansen and husband, Lonnie of Peterson, Dale Reese and wife, Mary-Frances of Des Moines, and Rita Garrelts and husband, Gary of Ayrshire; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Wayne Reese and wife, Fern of Peterson, and Keith Reese and wife, Wanda of La Quinta, Calif.; and one sister, Shirley Holt of Bothell, Wash.
